MASS MARRIAGE CEREMONY BEING HELD AT JALPAIGURI MILAN SANGHA

Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 17^th January, 2015: The 4^th Mass Marriage Ceremony was been held on 16.1.2015 at Milan Sangha Maidan of Jalpaiguri. The initiative of this mass marriage has been taken by the Lions Club of Jalpaiguri in co-operation with Janajati Sevashram, Bhagatpara. The ceremony witnessed the marriage between 21 pairs of bride and grooms. They were seen to pronounce the hymns and rituals of the marriage ceremony. On this occasion, the whole maidan was decorated with colorful pandals with balloons. A most interesting event within the ceremony was the tribal dance, performed by the tribal girls. The primitive sounds of ‘madol’ and ‘nagra’ flavored the whole atmosphere with unpremeditated folk-culture. The people of Jalpaiguri witnessed a historical moment which has almost taken the shape of a festival each year.
